The Perfect Fit: How to Select the Right Underwear Size
When it comes to your bra and knickers, choosing the right size is essential to ensure the correct fit and comfort levels. At Lemonade Dolls, we believe that feeling confident and comfortable in your underwear is a right, not a privilege. That’s why we created our truly inclusive underwear range!
We feel that a size 14 – the UK average – being equivalent to a large is wrong on so many levels. That’s why we do things a little differently! We’ve rewritten the traditional size guide to classify a UK 14-16 as a medium.
Our bralettes cater to those with an A-FF cup and 28-44 band size, while our fuller cup range provides further support for those with DD+ boobs.
Our knickers range from a UK 6-24 and our different styles provide you with a range of choices when it comes to coverage. For fuller coverage, check out our briefs, medium to low coverage is provided by our Brazilian and high-waisted styles, while our thongs gift you with barely-there coverage.
Try it on for size
Your bra size is determined by the number and letter on your bra. The number is your band size, measured around your torso. The letter is your cup size, which reflects how many inches larger your bust is compared to your band. So, a size 34A refers to a bust that is one inch bigger than its rib cage. A size 34B refers to a two-inch bigger bust, while a size 34C is for a three-inch bigger bust.
To find your measurements, first measure your torso under your boobs and take note of the number in inches. Then, measure your bust at its fullest part and subtract the band measurement from it. This will give you your cup size, and voilà, you're ready to find your perfect fit!
Lemonade Dolls’ underwear fits true to size. However, our sizing works a little differently from traditional lingerie brands, using small, medium and large sizing, as opposed to letters and numbers.
With our sizing, if you normally wear 34B you will fit in our small bralette. Or, if you’re looking for a looser fit, our medium styles. If you normally wear a 38F, you will fit our large fuller cup designs. If you have a larger cup size, this does not automatically mean you need our large size, as our sizing is more relative to your dress size. If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up to ensure the best fit.
Hook and eye conundrums
Those hook and eye closures are not just for show, they have a specific function, working to lengthen the lifetime of your bra.
When you first wear your new bra, you should be wearing it on the loosest hook and eye. If you find this isn’t providing you with enough support, you may need to try the next size down.
Once you have worn your bra for a while, you may find that it starts to feel looser as the fabric begins to stretch to fit the contours of your body. This is when you need to move onto the next hook and eye and so on until you are wearing your bra on the tightest fastening. This means your bra will last longer by accounting for the natural changes to the elasticity of your underwear.
A great-fitting bra
The best-fitting bras are the most comfortable. If you find that the straps are not giving you the support you need to feel truly confident, it means that they are doing too much work. Most of the support should come from the band holding them up and only 20% of the support will come from the straps. If you feel your straps are weighing you down, you might want to try the next size down.
If you find your bra band is rolling up and feels too tight, it may be time to go up a size. On the other hand, if the band feels too loose, it's likely not providing enough support and you should try going down a size.
